AboutSakhi Sangini Sangathan
Empowering resource-poor women in Bhuj since 2008
Born from the need for a livelihood, Sakhi Sangini Sangathan is a community-based organisation, rooted in the legacy of Kutch Mahila Vikas Sangathan, a pioneering organisation working for women’s empowerment in the rural areas of Kutch district since late 1980s. Our journey began with a research study to analyse the socio-economic conditions of women living in the slums of Bhuj in 2006-7. We found that women lived in precarious conditions i.e., absent sanitation, poor housing infrastructure, lack of a means of income and entrenched patriarchal norms.
Our Vision
A city where women and girls in slums enjoy holistic safety, exercise their rights and personal autonomy without hindrance, and advance their well-being through the collective leadership of women.
Our Mission
To catalyze the total empowerment of women by mobilising and organising them into independent local collectives. To foster their development, we focus on ensuring their economic safety , social safety, bodily safety and safety as a citizen.
Our Philosophy
Our philosophy is rooted in collective and changing leadership led by women— to create meaningful, lasting change. We believe gender equality cannot be achieved in isolation; therefore, we actively engage youth and men as allies in building a more just and equitable society.

Women’s safety remains central to our mission—encompassing economic security, freedom from gender-based violence, bodily autonomy, and the right to safety as equal citizens. Our work focused on four key dimensions of safety i.e., Economic, Social, Bodily and safety as a Citizen.
